Five Effective Ways to Quit Smoking
Many smokers ask me what the best and most effective way to quit smoking are. Read on and I reveal five of the more effective methods of quitting smoking that I’ve found. If you’re ready to finally break free from that addiction to nicotine, find out which method works best for you.
1. Nicotine Patches
Nicotine patches are one of the most popular quit-smoking methods. Also known as transdermal patches, they deliver nicotine directly through your skin so you don’t have to go through the unpleasant side effects of nicotine withdrawal. Most companies offer a variety of patches that gradually contain less and less nicotine, so you can quit in a number of steps until you’ve completely kicked your habit and gotten rid of your cravings.
2. Nicotine Inhalers
Next are nicotine inhalers. These are generally geared to the heaviest smokers, as well as those who have trouble breaking free of the hand-to-mouth habit in addition to nicotine cravings. Light smokers and occasional smokers might find inhalers to be a bit too much, and may want to stick with patches.
3. Nicotine Gum
Third on the list is nicotine gum, which seems to work best for light smokers (those who use less than half a pack a day). If you smoke more than that, you’ll probably get tired of the horrible taste and go back to cigarettes before you get rid of your addiction.
4. Find A Partner
Another idea is to find a partner who also wants to quit. A friend that you can lean on while you are going through the symptoms of nicotine withdrawals, and that can rely on you in turn, is a great way to help both of you stick to the quitting process. It’s much easier than if you go it alone.
5. Change One Thing At A Time
You can also approach quitting smoking indirectly, by first changing a habit that has nothing to do with smoking. For instance, let’s say that you’ve been wanting to get up a bit earlier in the morning. Begin by changing the time you wake up. Once you get in the habit of changing other habits first, you’ll prove to yourself that you have the necessary willpower to change, and will have a much easier time when you do quit smoking.
